Upon reflection, it can be said that the development of Aldium and its peoples can be mapped through the rise and fall of its religions. Throughout the ages, it has been the fervent belief in higher powers that have propelled us into the most torrid, as well as the most enlightening, events in our history. And why shouldn't this be the case? Is it not our intellect and our passions that set us apart from our bestial counterparts? The value we place in our deities, whatever form they take, is merely a reflection of our greater desire to give form and pattern to our existence, to see beyond what is in the here and now, to give meaning to the haphazard events that happen around us everyday.

Each god has a subdomain to represent their uniqueness regarding their portfolios, it goes withoutsaying that you can't pick a subdomain or a domain for example, you can't pick Healing domain and Restoration subdomain for cadmus if they look like repeats as far as most spells and second powers its a subdomain if you have any further questions ask a GM

What determines if my character can be a “worshiper” of a deity?

As a character, you may choose to worship a single deity or pantheon (the “deity”). If you worship a pantheon, you do not count as worshiping every god in that pantheon; you must choose one deity from that pantheon for the purpose of gaining mechanical benefits.

Your character’s alignment must be within one step of that of the deity he or she worships. Any character with levels in a class that grants spells or other features from a specific deity must worship that deity.

A character may only worship one deity at a time; the character may change which deity she worships between at no cost. If this change requires the character to change alignment, the character is required to pay for an atonement. Any element incompatible with the new deity no longer functions.

For example, a cleric of Desna with the Travel and Luck domains and the Butterfly Sting feat switches her worship to Shelyn. The cleric may still use the Luck domain because Shelyn grants that domain, but not the Travel domain or the Butterfly Sting feat, because worship of Shelyn does not grant access to those features.

Alignment Steps

Occasionally the rules refer to “steps” when dealing with alignment. In this case, “steps” refers to the number of alignment shifts between the two alignments, as shown on the following diagram. Note that diagonal “steps” count as two steps. For example, a lawful neutral character is one step away from a lawful good alignment, and three steps away from a chaotic evil alignment. A cleric's alignment must be within one step of the alignment of her deity.

The Ancients

The Ancients are among the oldest beings worshiped in all of Aldium. It is said to have been either before the world was created or shortly after. Even though they fall under the category of gods, most will argue and debate that they are not gods at all. It is also believed that Some Ancients still roam the mortal plane. Some mortals Have blood of the ancients coursing through their veins, but rarely does it grant them any divine powers. While some Ancients are or were physical beings of immense power, such as Elishar, others seem to be abstract concepts that may or may not have roots in an actual person or creature.Ancients are typically worshiped by Druids but there has been known to be clerics among them.

Despite alignment all of the Ancients with the exception of toldoth are anti-undead i (confused? ask a GM for help)

NPC Gods

These are the gods of madness, despair, destruction, and doom. They are utterly irredeemable beings of immense power whose very purpose is to bring about the downfall of all creation, though their exact methods and motivations vary. While it can be quite tempting to worship them for the quick power and instant gratification that they offer, only those completely blinded by these temptations, the most destructively mad, or the unrelentingly nihilistic become their most devout servants in their wicked acts.

These gods are not worshipable by players and are here for the purposes of reading material due to being in the games lore from time to time. unlike most gods, some of these gods require a knowledge dc to even know their name or any of their general information.
