Check

The table at right gives the DCs to escape various forms of restraints.

Restraint DC Action/Time Try Again?
Rope/bindings Binder’s CMB +20 1 minute Yes, unless DC is > 20 + your Escape Artist bonus
Net, command plants, control plants, or entangle 20 1 full-round action Not stated (yes by default)
Manacles (normal) 30 1 minute Yes
Tight space 30 at least 1 minute Yes
Manacles (masterwork) 35 1 minute Yes
Grapple or pin Grappler’s CMD Grappler’s CMD Yes
Crafty Escape +10 to the base DC 1 Minute Yes

Crafty Escape: In exchange for increasing the check DC by 10, you can hide your efforts at escaping. Anyone who inspects your bindings must attempt a Perception check with a +10 circumstance bonus (DC equal to the result of your last Escape Artist check). If this Perception check fails, they do not notice the work you have done to escape. For example, you could untie the rope that binds you but leave it in place so a villain
does not realize that you are free. Obviously if you free yourself and escape, the villain notices you are gone.

Ropes/Bindings

The DC of your Escape Artist check is equal to the binder’s combat maneuver bonus +20.
Net and Certain Spells

The DC to escape a net, an animated rope, commanded or controlled plants, or an entangle spell is 20.

Snare Spell

The DC to escape a snare spell is 23.

Manacles and Masterwork Manacles

The DC to escape normal manacles is 30. The DC to escape masterwork manacles is 35.

Tight Space

The DC noted on the table is for getting through a space where your head fits but your shoulders don’t. If the space is long you may need to make multiple checks. You can’t get through a space that your head does not fit through.

Grappler

You can make an Escape Artist check in place of a combat maneuver check to escape a grapple or to change from a pinned condition to merely grappled.

You can make an Escape Artist check in place of a combat maneuver check to escape a grapple or a pin.
Action

Varies. Making an Escape Artist check to escape from rope bindings, manacles, or other restraints (except a grappler) requires 1 minute of work. Escaping from a net or an animate rope, command plants, control plants, or entangle spell is a full-round action. Escaping from a grapple or pin is a standard action. Squeezing through a tight space takes at least 1 minute, maybe longer, depending on how long the space is.
Try Again

Varies. You can make another check after a failed check if you’re squeezing your way through a tight space, making multiple checks. If the situation permits, you can make additional checks, or even take 20, as long as you’re not being actively opposed. If the DC to escape from rope or bindings is higher than 20 + your Escape Artist skill bonus, you cannot escape from the bonds using Escape Artist.

Special

If you have the Stealthy talent , you get a +2 bonus on Escape Artist skill checks. If you have 10 or more ranks in Escape Artist, the bonus increases to +4.
